Tensions are running high on the first night of a new play. When the leading actor is found gassed in his dressing room, it looks like suicide. When in Rome

Alleyn is in Rome, travelling incognito on the trail of an international drugs racket. His path crosses the members of Sebastian Mailer's tour group, ail of whom seem strangely unperturbed that their guide has disappeared in the depths of a Roman basilica. Then a body is found in an Etruscan sarcophagus - and Alleyn is very much concerned.
